RareBites is a food collector for iOS. Photograph a dish, the app cuts it out and identifies it, and it becomes a numbered card in your FoodDex. 603 dishes from 94 countries are waiting to be found.

Frequently asked

How do I catch a dish?

Tap the camera button, point it at the food in front of you, and take the photo. RareBites cuts the dish out, works out what it is, and fills in the matching slot in your FoodDex. You never type a name or pick a category.

Do I need an account?

No. You can catch and collect without one. Signing in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password is optional, and lets you claim a collector handle, set an avatar, appear on the leaderboards, and carry a RareBites+ membership between devices.

Where is my collection stored?

On your phone. Your cards, catches, and progress stay on the device, so they do not move between devices and deleting the app deletes them. If you create an account, only your profile is stored on our server: your handle, display name, avatar, and the totals that place you on the leaderboards.

What happens to my photos?

A photo is sent away to be identified and discarded straight afterwards. It is never stored on our servers and never attached to your profile. The picture you keep, and the sticker cut from it, live only on your phone. Our Privacy Policy has the detail.

I ran out of catches.

RareBites comes with five free catches. They are a fixed allowance rather than a daily one, so they do not refill. RareBites+ removes the limit.

What is RareBites+?

An optional subscription that unlocks unlimited catches, the Food Map, saving your stickers to Photos, and a set of alternate app icons. It is billed through your Apple account. Manage or cancel it any time at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions, or in Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.

I bought RareBites+ but do not have it.

Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple ID you bought it on. Refunds are handled entirely by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; we have no way to issue them ourselves.

A dish was misidentified.

Identification is a guess made from a single photograph and it is not always right. A close, well lit shot of one dish works far better than a full table, and a photo of a screen or a printed picture may not identify at all. When the app is unsure it says so and gives your catch back rather than inventing a card. If it was confident and wrong, tell us what it said and what the dish actually was; that is genuinely useful.

I caught the same dish twice.

A dish you already own does not create a second card. The new photo joins the catch you already have and you can swipe between them on its page.

How do I delete my account or data?

Deleting the app removes your collection from your phone. If you created an account, email support@rarebites.app from the address it uses and we will delete the account, your profile, handle, and avatar, and remove you from the leaderboards. See the Privacy Policy for what we keep and for how long.
